During the season and weekends there will be a steam engine pulling the train - at other times a diesel engine will be in service. For a different view of the site take the fifteen inch gauge electric tramcar - the only one in Wales.

Browse our well stocked model shop with a large selection of trains including Hornby sets and accessories, die cast cars and planes, Airfix model kits and railway books.

The museum is accessible to the disabled.

Welsh Highland Railway

This is one of the great railway journeys in Britain! The scenery changes all the way with breathtaking views of Snowdonia.

The railway runs between Porthmadog and Caernarfon travelling coast to coast through the Aberglaslyn Pass, the pretty village of Beddgelert and over the slopes of Snowdon.

The full 25 mile railway offers a complete day out with time for exploring your destination. Shorter journeys are available too, as are trips including the Ffestiniog Railway which shares a station in Porthmadog. On board refreshments service on all trains served at your seat.

Snowdon Mountain Railway

Since 1896 Snowdon Mountain Railway has been welcoming intrepid travellers to the little village of Llanberis set in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. From here, visitors experience the remarkable journey by rack railway to the summit of Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales and England.

Ffestiniog Railway

The Ffestiniog Railway is history on the move - steam trains have been running here for over 150 years!

Originally built to carry slate, the little engines now haul a mixture of modern and vintage carriages between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog through the beautiful Vale of Ffestiniog. On board refreshments service on all trains served at your seat.

There are numerous events throughout the year.

At Porthmadog it connects with it’s new sister railway, the Welsh Highland.
